Open to returning campers who have completed 10th grade, the LIT program provides the opportunity to develop real world
skills and leadership abilities in the supportive Wicosuta community. What better place to take on a whole new challenge
than where you feel most comfortable and confident and give that special Wico feeling back to younger campers at the
same time? The LIT program is a comprehensive experience that takes Confidence - Competence - Community to a whole new level.
Space for the LIT Program is limited; enrollment will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.
LITs will be mentored by a dedicated LIT director (a member of Wico's leadership team), activity heads, and head counselors.
The program will incorporate working in small groups and individual attention, balancing team efforts and independent
development. Throughout the program LITs will have the opportunity to lead many activities involving both their peers and
campers ages 7-12, and will be provided with guidance and constructive feedback.
LITs will develop transferable skills and experience in:
- Problem Solving and Decision Making
Learn to identify problems with peers and campers and collaborate on problem solving on matters that impact other people
- Conflict Resolution
Experience conflict from all sides and learn to resolve and manage conflict with peers, campers and other staff
- Work Ethic
Practice the skill of "showing up" everyday. This is a job with responsibilities to yourself and the camp community
- Teamwork
Self-directed team experience; negotiate within a group to prepare and run activities collaboratively
- Performance Evaluation
Listening to and learning from feedback; develop your ability to receive, accept and provide constructive criticism with
possibly your first performance evaluation experience
- Communication
Constant communication with children, peers, supervisors and directors will develop your skills to the max
- Leadership Development
Try your leadership instincts outside of an academic or organized sports environment; learn different leadership styles
and work on one that works for you
- Community Service
Give back to the larger community through community service projects; earn hours toward high school graduation
- Independence
Build on the independence you've gained since your first summer at Wico with possibly your first work experience;
work alongside friends and independently
- Child-Development & Group Management
Develop familiarity with child development as you work with children, ages 7-12, individually and in groups; learn to facilitate
group/cabin dynamics and teamwork in activity areas
- Coaching/Teaching
Learn to coach/teach from the bestWico's Activity Heads. LITs will be supervised by Activity Heads with years of
experience coaching/teaching in their area of expertise
