Our History
The name "Wicosuta" is derived from the Native American Language and means "Strength." Wicosuta is located on what is now known as Newfound Lake, formally called Lake Pasquanny.

Camp Wicosuta was founded by Mrs. Anna Rothman. Mrs. Rothman lived in New York City on 94th Street and Broadway. She and Miss Bert Zins were the directors of the camp. In their first year, 1921, 50 campers enrolled. The tuition at the time was $325.00, and the season ran from July 1 to September 1.

Mrs. Rothman's primary goal was to provide girls a place where they could take a break from their studies and feel free to breathe fresh air and exercise in a pleasant and simple environment. Campers traveled to camp via the Boston & Maine Railroad from New York's Grand Central Terminal to Bristol, N.H.

Mrs. Rothman would be proud to know that she has relatives attending Camp Wicosuta to this day!
