Go Girl Go!

As we continually learn and grow within our community, we are dedicated to building an environment where EVERY day is a day that celebrates women and young girls. Michelle Obama said “[If women] can all rise together; we can all win. We have to be a team of women and girls who love each other and value each other and cherish one another. Because if we don’t cherish each other, no one else will.” Our campers and staff are all part of a community that allows them to feel loved and provides reminders that they can be anything in the world they dream of.

Female Leaders: Our hope is we are helping to raise all of our girls knowing they can be leaders and mentors in all of their future endeavors. At Wico, our campers and staff are surrounded by female role models. Girls watch their female counselors take on leadership responsibilities and model successful communication, critical thinking, and dependability. In addition, our big and little sister program allows campers to connect with older campers who will help guide them through every step of camp, from being a first-year camper to dealing with competition on the fields.

Relationships: At Wico, one of the most special things that campers and staff leave with are the priceless memories, created by unbreakable bonds that last a lifetime. The importance of female friendships goes beyond doing similar activities and spending time in the bunk together. Girl to girl friendships have been said to be based on mutual support and love. At camp, girls are constantly cheering each other on, working together and supporting each other. These are invaluable aspects of relationships that help each of us become our best selves.

Confidence: At Wico, we take pride in empowering girls to be brave and overcome obstacles. While in our community, our campers and staff feel a safety net to try new things. They allow themselves to feel silly and vulnerable, knowing there is no judgment from others. As Madeleine Albright said, “It took me quite a long time to develop a voice, and now that I have it, I am not going to be silent.” Our girls find their voices while at Wico and we love listening to them! We look forward to hearing them loud and proud into the future!
