Keep Wico Green

Wicosuta is dedicated to celebrating Earth Day, every year on April 22nd, and throughout the summer and off season. We do our best to help save the earth and our environment from pollution. Taking part in these activities help to make our world a happier, healthier place to live.

Limit the Waste:
With a community of over 500 individuals, we feed a lot of mouths! After 3 meals a day, 7 days a week, we always have some “extra”. Instead of throwing out an abundance of extra food, Wico donates discarded food to a local farm to help feed their animals! Some of the scraps are also used to feed our own camp horses, they especially love all of the apples from snack time!

Recycle, Recycle, Recycle:
Recycling helps to reduce pollution and save recourses. We generate a lot of cardboard, paper, and plastic materials in the kitchen (packaging and cereal containers to name a few) and around camp! We make sure all these materials are recycled – limiting the waste going to landfills!

Turn off electronics:
Turning off electronics when not in use can help save energy. It can also help reduce carbon emission and other harmful greenhouse gases. We encourage our community to turn off all lights and fans when leaving bunks and buildings around camp.

Always learning:
Our campers have a lot of choices in activities around camp. One of our electives, outdoor adventure, focuses on environmental education, survival skills, and hiking. Campers develop a deeper understanding for taking care of our environment.

Wicosuta makes conscious efforts towards preserving New England’s beautiful wilderness. Let us know if you have any other ideas for the summer or how you do your part to preserve the environment at home! Send your ideas to liz@campwicosuta.com or tag @wicosuta_03241 on Earth Day, April 22nd!
